I guess the species of fish available would depend on the time of year you're visitin the area. One year I fished the surf & cuayght a very large Redfish (not within the slot limit & releasaed) In conclusion & catfish. Besides the next year it was a different time of the year & all I cuaght were jacks & some catrfish.
Although, I like to fish the surf, I now go to the public piers to fish or go out on charters. In spite of another good spot is the jetrties at East Pass, their you'd get a mixed bag of fish. From the top of my head choctawhatchee Bay side to fish for sea trout I've in the past been successful there. Again, it seems to depend on the time of year.
Another tip is to fish promptly during a tide movement periuod. Moving tides seems to help when fishin. I like outgoing tides the best. Check a tide chart and try to match you fisdhing times with tide movements.
