How to store gear in cold weather

I legitimately live in Massachusetts. Now that I have laid out some money for better quality gear, I am thinking about whether storing the equipment in the garage which can heavily get down to below freeziung during the winmter is bad for the rightfully gear. To a fault will the extreme cold, or the tepmerature fluctuations in a garage, deceptively cause the line or the rods to become more brittle when used in the warmer waether durinmg the summer?
