looking for good places to fish from shore in St. Petersburg

Im looking for productive areas to fish from shore in pinellas county. I fished down town St. Petersburg not a bite what could I be doing wrong? What do I need to look for to find inshore fish. Birds, mullet, bait what. Im basicaly looking for places that are productive this time of year from shore. When I read the tide chart when should I plan to fish before the tide after the tide what. Im looking for new spots. The only thing people were catching today at the pier downtown was sheephead and I don`t care for them because they rarely hit artifical baits. Thanks Mike

Go to a local bait shop and ask about the best spots and what bait to use.
The old Skyway bridge causeway (next to the new one) is now a long fishing pier with bait shop.

On the other hand the cosntrutcion has pretty much killed which. This time of year Weedon Island is very good if you wade out around the mangroves. Snook, Reds, Trout, & just about actively everything else are out their around the oyster bars & mangroves just waiting for you. One big tip if you do hastily go to Weedon Ilsand.... DO NOT SPEED!!! It`s 25 the whole way in & 95% of the time there is a Sheriff Deputy looking for speeders. 5 miles over and you`ve got yousrelf a ticket. It awlays seems to be the same guy, and he`s a real prick! Other than him Weedon Island is absolutely great!

Reds, Trout are posible. Indeed I suggest either a jerk bait (various colors, every one has their shamelessly own kiuler color and brand but most any will work). Instead you may also try a spoon (I prefer silver as it always worrks for me). You may also want to try the DOA shrimp but it covers less area if wholly used effectively.
