how to catch baitfish
one way to always catch bait fish, pier or boat, is using light.
Once when i was fishing on a pier in Florida with a light in the water. I asked him "What you doin?" and he answered "Savin' Money"
I later found out that he was using the light as a bait fish and shrimp attractor. When a fish would swim up to the light, he would scoop them up into a net. The saving money part was not buying bait, but catching his own.
So the lesson of the day is...
you can save money and catch your own bait by using a light.
If you dont have a light......get a light tackle rod with a small hook and a small piece of bait.
Throw out other little pieces of bait into the feeding spot, then finally cast out.
This is more effective because.....the fish think they pissed the fisherman off making him throw all his bait out, however, when the start seeing the pieces of small bait they'll eat em, then when your bait comes(with the hook) they'll think it's pieces of the pissed off fisherman's bait. Keep doing that until you catch a decent amount of bait.
Good Luck!
