After a few weeks hiatus, I fished Estero Bay Friday with Steve Ross and father-in-law, Jack. We caught some live shiners, and used those for bait, along with live shrimp. We fished toward Wiggins pass, along tree lines and oyster bars, and released small black drum, mangrove snapper, whiting and sheepshead.

I headed out about 65 miles with Gregg Bedell on his boat Monday, to fish the Stoney Point wreck. We used squid, sardines, and shiners, and it was a pretty exciting day out there. We caught a fifteen pound African pompano, a seven pound mutton snapper, and a two foot rainbow runner. We kept a dozen vermillion snapper, and six lane snapper, releasing numerous others. When the mutton snapper hit our

I fished Wednesday in 30 feet out of New Pass, around the reefs, with Joe Soboloski and his three sons. We used live shrimp to catch keeper mangrove snapper, lane snapper, and Spanish mackerel. We released the mackerel, along with triggerfish, gag grouper shorts, and ladyfish. The boys kept the snapper for dinner.

The beginning of the week brought some beautiful weather to east central Florida with sunny skies and light winds. The water temperature in the Mosquito Lagoon is in the mid 60's and the redfish have been tailing aggressively. Each day, I am seeing more and more big trout and it looks like it will be an excellent winter for sight fishing.

One of our usual cool fronts has worked its way across the Treasure Coast the past few days, bringing cooler night temperatures upon us. It looks like the next week should be great weather for anglers in the area. We will continue to have our normal windy days, but there are plenty of areas to fish out of it. Hope you had a chance to fish this week.

The water levels have dropped in the Mosquito Lagoon but the temperatures have remained well above normal with several days in the 80's. The redfish schools have been plentiful and the black drum have been showing up on occasion. It has been more like fishing in April than January but I never complain when I can fish in shorts during the winter.

Wind and rain has been the story of the weather this week on the Treasure Coast. Winds kept many areas out of reach most days. Several days of constant drizzling rain left us waterlogged and wet. We did have a couple of nice days, but the rest were challenging. Looks like we will have similar weather again this week. Keep your rain gear handy!

The best action this week has been at mid morning and at places like Bear Point and the area around Blind Creek to the South and to the North it has been just north of the Moorings Flats.
